Awesome weekend, scary week

This weekend was so much fun. I cleaned my craft room Friday evening and it looks so much better. I also rearranged some furniture, moving my comfy red chair into our office so it looks more cozy and den-like. Rem likes it already. Can you say “spoiled?”

On Saturday, I hung out with my mom at the mall. We shopped for a dress for my step brother’s wedding in October and a few other things (*cough cough* shoes *cough cough*). I bought a SWEET Ravens hat that the hubby is totally jealous of. Then we had a delicious dinner of homemade taco soup. I’ll have to share that recipe with you all soon. It is so yummy!

Saturday evening we went to our neighbors’ house to play Monopoly. I hate Monopoly. It never ends. Ever. BUT, with a few extra rules to the game, we played the game in about an hour and a half. ANDDDD, I was a total boss and won the game. By the end of it, I owned all of the property. That has never happened to me and it will never happen again, but it was awesome. I attribute my win to my smack talk and my Ravens hat. Check me out, Imma Monopoly Boss.

I had to wear my Ravens hat next door because they are Steelers fans. That is CRAY! Brian swore he wouldn’t buy a house next door to Stealers fans. Guess it’s not all bad 🙂

Sunday we had the neighbors over to our place to watch the Redskins play the Saints. I don’t care about either team, but I am glad the Redskins won because they have a sweet fight song. “Hail to the Redskins, hail victory…” That’s all I know, but I like it haha.

Anyway… this week is going to be rough. I had a dentist appointment this morning — the first in a year and a half. Ugh. I hate the dentist. Nothing good ever comes from it. Ever. I have two cavities and a million other shadows to watch for. At least my teeth are pretty, even if they get cavities a lot. Meh.

Then on Wednesday I have an orthopedist appointment to get these cranky wrists checked out. It’s about time I went to figure out what’s wrong with my wrists, but a doctor’s appointment is a doctor’s appointment. Plus, I’m nervous about what they doctor will say. But if it ends with a solution to my cranky wrists, I guess that’s good. Still, nothing to really look forward to.

Luckily, I see Springsteen on Friday in Washington, D.C. — the beacon of awesomeness to get me through the work week and a week of crummy appointments.

Oh, and I’m off for a 5-day weekend. I guess this week won’t be so bad after all!

Happy Monday!

A lovely, long weekend

I love long weekends — who doesn’t, right?

Labor Day weekend was a much-needed break from work. We’ve been so busy now that students are back, so these three days were just what I needed!

Saturday was a fantastic day. I went to my dad’s neighborhood to help landscape a neighbor’s house. The owner was in need of help with her lawn, so my dad and several neighbors chipped in. One neighbor raked and raked and raked a huge dirt pile in the front of the house from a pipe replacement. My dad planted all new landscaping up front. I moved downed tree branches into the woods behind the house. Another neighbor trimmed low branches on the trees, while a final neighbor built a lattice hideaway for the garbage and recycling. We all mulched and tidied up, and the place looked great. She was so super appreciative, and it was really nice to help her.

Then my mom and I hung out and I made the sweet wreath I showed you yesterday.

The hubs and I spent Saturday night duck pin bowling with some friends. I’d never been before and it was so much fun.

Sunday we hung out with my brother and then went to dinner at my mom’s house. My step brother was watching a puppy for one of his buddies…. isn’t she so cute!?!?

Her name is Natty 🙂 She was so flippin’ cute.

Today, I’m working on a bunch of projects, including a portfolio for my best friend and a wreath for our front door. Oh, and I’m making homemade sugar cookies and snicker doodles for a cookout tonight.

Yay for long weekends. Hope you all are enjoying yours! Happy Labor Day!

Weekend recap

This weekend has been pretty awesome. It started on Friday when my stepdad came over to remove the toilet and vanity from our family room bathroom. Then the hubby and I got to pick out a new toilet, vanity and light fixture — oh, and paint! We went with Behr’s Silent Ripple.

It is a light purple, but in certain lights looks a little blue. When we got home from buying our paint, I immediately got to work on the bathroom — even though it was 10 p.m. Three hours later, I was almost finished. I just had to cut in around the edges. Fun fact: I didn’t use any tape in the bathroom and it doesn’t look terrible! Yay!

Saturday morning started with loud thunderstorms and a swim meet. After the thunder calmed down, I rushed out of the house to see Elliott swim two races at his swim meet.

I got there just in time to catch his first race — it was a relay and he did the butterfly. Man is he fast! He also did a medley race, but was pretty tired from the earlier race because not much time was in between.

My dad, who has always been very involved in our sports, is an official for Elliott’s meets sometimes. Check him out — so serious!

When I was younger, he coached my soccer teams and he refereed soccer games. Now it’s swimming. He’s awesome.

Once we watched his first two races, the hubby and I headed off to Lowe’s. We had found a toilet at Home Depot the night before, but wanted to see what Lowe’s had as far as vanities went before making our purchase. We left empty-handed, planning ordering a light fixture and vanity online when we got home. But when we perused the interwebs, we decided that the cabinet to go with was the cabinet we almost bought at Lowe’s to begin with. So we got back in the car and headed to Lowe’s again.

Amidst all of the Lowe’s trips, I got to go out to lunch with my momma and BOTH of my sisters — that never happens! Allie is in town from Colorado just for the weekend 🙂 What a nice treat.

We ended out Saturday having dinner with Brian’s momma, then attending a block party in my dad’s neighborhood. I used to go to block parties each summer in our neighborhood, but they died down for a while. The neighborhood is trying to bring them back, which is a fantastic idea because they are so much fun!

Today, the hubby and I are cleaning up the house, grocery shopping and just taking it easy. Allie is going to come see our house for the first time! And John is going to come back over tonight the help us install our new bathroom purchases! Hooray.

On top of this fabulous weekend, Hobby Lobby gave me a sweet shout out on their Facebook page that pretty much made my entire life!

I hope you all had a great weekend — Bathroom reveal sometime this week 🙂
