Thanksgiving 2014

Hi folks! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I traveled to Ohio to see my dad’s extended family. We have some great family traditions with our Cincinnati family, like drinking UDF milkshakes, walking the Thanksgiving Day Race (… we actually bailed this year… oops), and black friday shopping with the girls. We also have the best food ever! My aunts make mean dishes for Thanksgiving, including cheesy jalapeno rice, strawberry pretzel salad and the yummiest sweet potatoes.

Here are a few pictures from our fun trip!

Stay tuned for a post on how I decorated my home this holiday season. I love all of the decorations I’ve accumulated through the years and am excited to share them with you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy ThanksgivingHappy Thanksgiving, from my family to yours!

I scheduled this post super early because right about now my sisters, my little brother, my dad and I (and possibly some cousins, aunts and uncles) are heading to downtown Cincinnati to walk in the Thanksgiving Day Race. I bought us turkey hats this year! Woot! We are going to freeze our butts off, but it’s always worth it.

After the race, we’ll rush home to warm up and shower before helping my aunt cook dinner. She makes the most amazing sweet potatoes. YUM!

Then it’s a Ravens vs. Steelers matchup, which we’ll be watching at a bar with my cousin who a HUGE Steelers fan (yuck!). Wish us luck because both she and Brian will be unbearable if we lose 🙂

Hope you all have a great holiday and get to celebrate with the ones you love.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Jess

Do Good with Wood award

Hello blog world! I feel like I have been absent for ages and am happy to get back into the groove of crafting and writing.  We just got back from a trip to Ohio to see my dad’s family for Thanksgiving. It was a great trip, but I am exhausted for the traveling. The hubby and I are unpacking and relaxing tonight, but I have big plans for crafting tomorrow. I think I am going to start making an ottoman out of pallet wood! How cool would that be? In my head, it is amazing. We’ll see if I can pull it off.

Speaking of working with wood, have any of you guys heard of the new contest Minwax is running? They are looking for people who work with wood in a way that also gives back to the community. It sounds like a really neat award and the prize is $5,000 — not too shabby! Plus you get lots of fun Minwax stuff. I’d love to enter, but I’ve only made stuff for our house… so unless Chez Smith is a charity (which it isn’t), I’m out of this one. But I figured I’d share because it sounds pretty cool. Not to mention it is the time of year to give back to those in need. You might as well try to win a prize while you are at it!! You can check out the rules here.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It really is a great holiday and wonderful time to reflect on what you are thankful for. Me? I’m thankful for my family, friends, health, house, job, blog, and dog. I’m thankful for my hubby. I’m thankful for my creativity.
