Painted Pottery

I’ve been wanting to share this project with you for a while, but it was part of Brian’s anniversary gift so I had to keep it a secret.

About a month ago I went to a pottery painting shop with my neighbor — SO much fun. If you get the opportunity to do this you definitely should.

Pottery painting is pretty easy, as long as you have enough time to do so. Our trip took about four hours, maybe more. First you have to pick out  the piece you’d like to paint. I went with a basic white tray.

I had a hard time deciding what to paint, until I saw a Redskins tray. With that as my inspiration, I asked the woman at the pottery shop to print me out a piece of carbon paper with the Ravens logo. I centered it on my tray.

Once it was taped on my tray, I traced all of the lines in the logo so they would show up on the plate. ALL of the lines. This seemed to take forever.

Then, I painstakingly painted my Raven and my “Go Ravens” text. You have to go over your painting several times so this took a while. I almost regretted choosing such a detailed drawing, but in the end it was worth it.

The paint looks pretty thick and crusty (ew) before they glaze and fire it. But overall, not too bad!

So proud 🙂

AND, it looks ever better once it is finished. Check this out 😀

Brian was pretty impressed at his sweet tray.

Moral of this story… GO PAINT POTTERY!

Graphic Design, Life

Football Season

I’m getting way more into football this year than in years past — not exactly sure why or how long it will last, but it’s been fun to watch the games so far.

This will be my last football craft for a bit, but it’s pretty funny and totally true, so I had to share.

I was in Hallmark the other day buying a card and I stumbled upon this weird little bird holding a sign that read, “We interrupt this marriage to bring you football season.”

I almost scooped it off the shelf because is it SO true (We are scheduling our anniversary dinner next week around football games), but it was a really weird flamingo-like purple bird that would have looked strange sitting around our house.

So while the Steelers were losing to the Broncos, I created this masterpiece.

Too funny, right?

On a completely different note, I wanted to take a second to say that I am so proud to be an American and we will always remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. I also want to say “thank you” to the men and women who protect our country each and every day, whether soldiers, policemen, firefighters, etc. Our country is a better place because of all of you and I am forever grateful for what you do. Thank you.

Awesome weekend, scary week

This weekend was so much fun. I cleaned my craft room Friday evening and it looks so much better. I also rearranged some furniture, moving my comfy red chair into our office so it looks more cozy and den-like. Rem likes it already. Can you say “spoiled?”

On Saturday, I hung out with my mom at the mall. We shopped for a dress for my step brother’s wedding in October and a few other things (*cough cough* shoes *cough cough*). I bought a SWEET Ravens hat that the hubby is totally jealous of. Then we had a delicious dinner of homemade taco soup. I’ll have to share that recipe with you all soon. It is so yummy!

Saturday evening we went to our neighbors’ house to play Monopoly. I hate Monopoly. It never ends. Ever. BUT, with a few extra rules to the game, we played the game in about an hour and a half. ANDDDD, I was a total boss and won the game. By the end of it, I owned all of the property. That has never happened to me and it will never happen again, but it was awesome. I attribute my win to my smack talk and my Ravens hat. Check me out, Imma Monopoly Boss.

I had to wear my Ravens hat next door because they are Steelers fans. That is CRAY! Brian swore he wouldn’t buy a house next door to Stealers fans. Guess it’s not all bad 🙂

Sunday we had the neighbors over to our place to watch the Redskins play the Saints. I don’t care about either team, but I am glad the Redskins won because they have a sweet fight song. “Hail to the Redskins, hail victory…” That’s all I know, but I like it haha.

Anyway… this week is going to be rough. I had a dentist appointment this morning — the first in a year and a half. Ugh. I hate the dentist. Nothing good ever comes from it. Ever. I have two cavities and a million other shadows to watch for. At least my teeth are pretty, even if they get cavities a lot. Meh.

Then on Wednesday I have an orthopedist appointment to get these cranky wrists checked out. It’s about time I went to figure out what’s wrong with my wrists, but a doctor’s appointment is a doctor’s appointment. Plus, I’m nervous about what they doctor will say. But if it ends with a solution to my cranky wrists, I guess that’s good. Still, nothing to really look forward to.

Luckily, I see Springsteen on Friday in Washington, D.C. — the beacon of awesomeness to get me through the work week and a week of crummy appointments.

Oh, and I’m off for a 5-day weekend. I guess this week won’t be so bad after all!

Happy Monday!
