Home Improvement

Busy weekend

Hello, blog!

Well, we did it. We finally installed our new doors. It took pretty much all weekend because our house is amazingly crooked, but they are installed. I’m only going to share one photo with you today because I’ve only had time to paint the outside of our doors. The inside is still a primed, boring beige.

Guess what color the doors are??

TEAL!

That’s right, teal. They look fabulous. Or at least I think they do. Turns out a lot of men don’t like the color teal, especially not on a house haha. Oh well.

Here’s a photo of our doors installed, not painted, and with no trim. Looking pretty good, huh?

Tomorrow I’ll share all of the troubles we (mainly my amazing stepdad) went through to get these bad boys onto the house.

Home Improvement, Paint

Hey new doors, heyyyyyy

After running around like crazy people last night doing some long-overdue grocery shopping and a Costco run, we finally made it to Lowe’s to pick up our new doors! Who wants to see some terrible photos of our doors? Hopefully you do.

I totally sissied out yesterday when it came to carrying them into the house, but we got them in and laid them on our floor. They are rather… beige. But that’s just for now! I am nervous that they will look too fancy on our Plain Jane house, but I am also fabulous at second-guessing my decisions when it comes to things I cannot return. *gulp*

The door on the left will be our front door, and the other will replace our crummy car port door.

I was a little nervous about leaving them ont he floor because of the pup, so I made a door cage out of chairs to keep Rem out.

He doesn’t seem too interested though.

On to the swatches! I am loving the idea of a teal front door. I think the mint will get lost in the whiteness of our house, so a bolder pop of color is in order. I also like the vibrant blue. The hubby also likes the blue and hates the teal… so I should be nice and go with that. But I make no promises.

Sometimes a girl just needs a teal front door! And even though my hubby doesn’t quite believe it, I can always repaint the door if we hate it.

Hope you enjoyed. I have no idea when we’ll get a chance to hang them, but you’ll be the first to know once I know!

Happy hump day!

Spring break!

Work has been really busy lately and there’s just been no time for crafting of any sort. Thankfully, I get a break starting tomorrow — spring break, in fact! One of the best perks of working at a university is that we get a spring break just like the students. We usually get two days off, but this year we have Monday through Wednesday off work! Wahooooo! I am also taking Thursday AND Friday off 🙂

I can’t wait to get started on a few projects that I’ve been dying to get my hands on.

My goals for spring break:

  • Paint the cabinets in our laundry room & replace the countertop
  • Create a side table for my craft room to replace an old dresser that is falling apart
  • Possibly hang new doors in our office closet
  • Buy new front and car port doors — also paint our current doors a test color to see if I like it for our new front door
  • Finish a sewing stool project I started in January
  • Build an ottoman for our living room (this probably won’t happen because I am super picky about fabric and can’t decide what I want)
  • Fix jewelry for people… I realllly need to get to this.
  • Take a bunch of crapola to the dump

Totally doable list with a whole week off work, right?

OK, it does seem a bit ambitious. If I get half of it done, I’ll be super pleased.

Hope your weeks are going well! Happy Friday & happy weekend!!
